‘The Reserve Springfield’ New South-East QLD AFL Precinct

The Reserve is a brand-new Community Arena that has just been completed in Springfield. After extensive research into the ideal placement for the new regional sports and event precinct the Brisbane Lions Club are proud to announce the selected site in Springfield.

This is great news for the community of Springfield as well as the AFL community, ‘The Reserve’ is a multi-functional arena that can accommodate up to 10,000 spectators for elite sport matches and will provide a major community stage for events to be held on the main oval.

The Reserve is home to AFL Women’s matches as well as second-tier AFL games in South East Queensland. The centre  provides elite training grounds and administration space for the Brisbane Lions AFL and AFL Women’s teams. Through the Hyundai Help for Kids Brisbane Lions Academy which currently enrols 300 talented junior and youth AFL athletes, up and coming talent will continue to flourish.

The precinct encompasses a high-performance gymnasium, state of the art learning and teaching facilities, lap pool, aquatic recovery pools as well as sports medical infrastructure to support the team members. The Reserve is the first facility in Australia that is purpose built to provide training facilities for both men’s and women’s teams which is an exciting development for AFL.

Springfield is located 20 minutes drive from Brisbane CBD and is Queensland fastest growing region and the third-fastest growing region across Australia with the forecast for the population to double by 2031 largely made up of young families.

With a growing population and development in Springfield the construction of  ‘The Reserve’ is coming just in time and will provide an invaluable asset to the community by expanding the options for not only the sporting community but the whole community by providing a space to host non-sport events, festivals and community gatherings.

The Brisbane Lions and AFL have identified 20-25 major events that are to be staged at the new venue each year including AFL Women’s and AFL pre-season matches, local NEAFL and QAFL games. The 1000 seat grandstand has been designed to include the  technical components required to broadcast all major events.

The incredible venue has a modern design and includes pedestrian concourses, seating and shaded areas to fulfil the needs of users to make it comfortable with full disability access to meet the needs of everyone in the community.

Commuters on Queensland Rail are also being catered for with a brand-new multi-story car park adjacent to the reserve that provides over 1000 car park spaces for major arena events and Springfield Central rail commuters on weekdays.
